Architecture Sessions
Vertical Building as a Solution for Future Urban Development
These days it is commonly accepted that urban development must stay away from a growth system based on spreading out as an oil-stain as this is unsustainable from an energy, social and functional point of view.
Cities' density, while not over-dense, is not only convenient but necessary in order to maintain the social activity that cities, and the urban environment, must offer to citizens as a counterpoint to the rural environment.
Thus, vertical building brings two kind of beneficial effects: on one hand, the freeing of the required and much wanted public spaces for leisure and for the citizens' enjoyment and pleasure and, on the other hand, vertical building allows urban density which means very important energy savings, especially those related to transportation. And then, public transportation, if properly promoted, becomes a key element of sustainable and effective urban development.
These architecture sessions at BMP will not just present theories but, mainly, real cases of successful vertical building. Successful examples from both the public and private sectors. A day not to be missed by any urban planner nor any housing or office developer. A Program hard to find anywhere else.
